This is a recap of my first washday post texlax touch-up. It also doubled as my Henna application day.
- I mixed 100gms unbranded natural henna powder with cooled green tea (made with 2 bags) in a plastic bowl, covered it and left it overnight for dye release.
- The following day, I was feeling quite lazy so I used the Henna mix as a prepoo. I added 2 tablespoons of honey to the henna mix and applied to my slightly damp hair. I dampened my hair to make applying the henna easier and less messy. For more details on how I mix and apply henna, read this post
- I left the henna on (covered with clingfilm) for 4 hours. I rinsed the henna out and then shampoo'd twice with Creme of Nature Moisture and Shine Sulphate-free Shampoo.
- I then deep conditioned with Hairveda Sitrinillah Deep Conditioner for 20 minutes with heat from my Electric heating cap. I then rinsed with cool water and tshirt-dried.
- Now to styling, some weeks ago, I stumbled on a video on youtube with a new approach to flexi rod sets. The Horseshoe Method, what I really loved about the technique is the fact that you would use less flexi rods. Hence, sleeping with flexi rods would be easier, so I decided to try it. Watch video below.
CurlDaze Horseshoe Method (Flexi rod set)
- For my flexi rod set, I oiled my scalp, applied African Pride Shea Butter Miracle Moisture Intense Leave-in Conditioner and detangled in sections. I then applied Cantu Shea Butter Natural Hair Moisturising Curl Activator Cream and sealed with Grapeseed Oil. I used a total of 8 small flexi rods.
- I tied my hair with my satin scarf and went to bed. The following morning, I checked and some sections especially in front were not completely dry. I was a little worried but I think the curls still came out fine. I applied Grapeseed Oil to my palms and seperated the curls.
I will definitely use the "Horseshoe Method" again.
Third day curls still popping |
How was your last washday? Would you try this new flexi rod set technique?
xx,
Bee
Wow I never heard of that method before! Is it easier than the usual method? Also, how do you like the Hairveda Sitrinillah Deep Conditioner? Ive been meaning to check it out.
ReplyDeleteI only recently got to know it too. It's quite easy and fast too. The major advantage however is the fact that you would use less rods. 1 rod would give 2 rolls or sets. I'm not a huge fan of the hairveda sitrinillah, it's ok but not the most moisturising deep conditioner I've used. I have read great reviews though so maybe it's just my hair.
DeleteBeautiful waves. Very nice! thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteThanks Josie!
DeleteYour curls look great Bee. I haven'tused used flexi rods in a while but seeing your curls makes me want to go dust mine and try it.

Thanks Hilda! You should definitely put your flexi rods to work again. They are easy to install and give great results
DeleteI love your curls Bee! Yes I would love to try this method except my hand co-ordination is not the best. How did the henna treatment go?
ReplyDeleteThanks Becca! My henna treatment went smoothly as usual.
DeleteLovely, I like how your curls were a looser wave! Funnily enough I had just stumbled across the same video and attempted the horseshoe method but mine was kind've a fail...whomp whomp!
ReplyDeleteThanks EbonyC, But I'm not actually sure I know exactly why my set didn't turn tighter or looser. Sorry your first attempt didn't turn out well but you should totally give it a try again
DeleteThe curls came out pretty good. When you style your hair is your hair 90 or 80% dry?
ReplyDeleteThank you! I style 80% dry at least most of the time
DeleteYour hair looks so pretty. I've never heard of this method, but it certainly looks easier and the results are amazing!
ReplyDeleteThank you! you should try it
DeleteI saw this video and thought it interesting. Think I'll try it eventually. Your results look a lot like you used satin strips :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks! Will look out for your post when you try it
DeleteLOve how your curls came out wavy. I tried this method 2 weeks ago i think but got tighter curls.
ReplyDeleteThanks Tomes! I read your post and I actually loved your curls too. And for real I don't know exactly why mine turned out not so tight.
DeleteYour curls are perfect. Not too tight and not too loose. I love this curl pattern.
